Turkey Trots Up To Police Station, Warning Issued To Drivers

YARMOUTH (CBS) -- Why did the turkey show up at the police station?

Yarmouth police said in a Facebook post that "Tom" barely made it across the road.

"He complained that he was nearly hit while crossing the street to meet an unnamed female," Chief Frank Frederickson wrote.

Turkey jokes aside, Frederickson wants drivers to know that the turkey population has increased "dramatically" over the past 10 years.

"On the serious side, please be alert to increased turkey activity," he said. "These large birds are very active and startle drivers when they appear in the roadways."

Wild turkey hunting season starts on April 27 in Massachusetts.
