Oversight Hearing To Examine Winter Transportation Woes

BOSTON (AP) — The snow is melting and public transportation is returning to full service. But the investigations into the massive breakdowns that plagued the MBTA during a record-setting stretch of winter weather are continuing.

The Legislature's transportation committee has scheduled two days of oversight hearings at the Statehouse on Monday and Tuesday. The panel has summoned a number of officials to discuss topics including the overall condition of the state's transportation network and response plans for extreme weather.

State transportation secretary Stephanie Pollack and interim T general manager Frank DePaola are among those scheduled to appear on Monday. Keolis general manager Gerald Francis will answer questions on Tuesday about the state's commuter rail system.

Meanwhile, a special commission appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker to perform a sweeping review of the MBTA could issue its recommendations soon.
