Bruins-Sabres Recap: Lack Of Goal Scoring Rears Ugly Head Once Again

BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins entered Tuesday night 7-1-1 in their last 9 games, but all that goodwill and progress may have been erased in one poor outing against the Buffalo Sabres, the NHL's worst team.

Good teams beat the teams they are supposed to beat, and the B's did not do that against Buffalo.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Rich Keefe, filling in for Adam Jones Tuesday night, caught up with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Bruins Radio Network following the game to recap the action.

"Buffalo played [Monday] night and they went into a shootout. Again, they're the 30th place team in the league. They've got nothing to play for but pride, and with the Bruins coming back home you needed to see two points somehow someway. It didn't need to be pretty. It didn't have to be a blowout. But you needed to see two points," said a disappointed Bob Beers.

If you go back and look at the box scores of Boston during their recent hot streak, you'll notice the offense hasn't exactly been lighting it up. The defense and the goaltending has been there, but Tuesday night the B's simply couldn't muster more than one goal against the Sabres.

"Tuukka Rask has been outstanding for them. That part of the game has been much better. But now the power play has dried up for them, which had been a point of strength," said Beers. "I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of changes and just try and tinker with the lines to jump start something offensively for this team."

Boston certainly had their scoring chances: the B's put 45 shots on net, and Buffalo only managed to get 24 on Niklas Svedberg. But scoring chances does not equate to goals scored, as we've come to know with this 2014-15 Bruins team.

"They put 95 pucks towards the net tonight: 45 shots on [Sabres goalie] Anders Lindback, 28 attempts were blocked and 22 missed the net. It's a familiar story for the Bruins. Lack of goal scoring has cost the Bruins, and it cost them again tonight," added play-by-play man Dave Goucher.
