Winchester High School Security Tight After Hit List Revealed

WINCHESTER (CBS) – There will be more police than usual at Winchester High School Monday, after a student hit list was revealed late last week.

The list was discovered on Friday when a student at the school told a staff member about other students he wanted to harm.

Parents of students identified in the list were contacted immediately and no one was hurt.

The unidentified male student will not be in school Monday and Tuesday, according to Superintendent William McAlduff.

There's no word yet on any charges in the investigation.

"The safety of your sons and daughters is of utmost importance to us. In the coming days our goals will be to ensure the safety of staff and students at Winchester High School, maintain normalcy/stability of daily operations, and address any emotional needs of students, parents and staff," McAlduff told families in a weekend email.

Teachers will be briefed on the situation before classes start Monday.

Students can expect to see more police on campus and more staff in the hallways.

Cell phone use will also be limited "to control possible rumors and inaccurate information," according to McAlduff.

"The Winchester Police Department continues to actively investigate this case, and our officers are having productive discussions with the school department and those involved. At this time, we do not believe that there is any immediate threat," Police Chief Ken Albertelli said in a statement Monday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 781-729-1214.
