Phantom Gourmet: Sweet In Worcester

WORCESTER (CBS) -- Take just one look at these plates and it's easy to see that Sweet certainly isn't your run of the mill restaurant. At Sweet Kitchen + Bar, on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, Chef-Owner Alina Eisenhauer has created a place where she can showcase her passion for great food, cool drinks and mouthwatering desserts.

"If I'm not here cooking for other people, I'm reading about food, I'm dreaming about food, I'm eating someone else's food, I am obsessed with food, and everything about it," Alina says.

Alina has been cooking and baking in restaurants since she was 13 years old. That lifelong love of food is on full display at Sweet, where the menu focuses globally inspired plates, and gorgeously inventive desserts.

"Everything's made to order, fresh, farm to table, from scratch, just the way that I grew up cooking, and the way that I really believe food should be made," she said.

Alina opened Sweet in 2008. But about a year ago, she relocated the restaurant into this stunning space inside one of Worcester's most historic buildings where 30-foot ceilings, whitewashed brick walls and a black marble bar boasting the largest whiskey and bourbon selection in the city give the place a hip blend of modern and rustic touches.

"The reaction we get the most often when people walk in is that they feel like they're in New York or in Boston," Alina said.

And the what's on the plate stacks up against anything you'd find in any big city too. Because for this chef, giving people great food is always the goal.

"Most chefs, especially if you're good at what you do, you're good at what you do because it's your passion, and because you love it and you put everything into it, and you take it really seriously, and so to see other people appreciate it means everything to me. That's why I do it. I do it because I want to give you an amazing experince. Every guest that comes in here, that's why we're here."
