HANOVER (CBS) – A stomach virus has led to more than 100 absences in a single day at South Shore Vocational Technical High School, officials say.
Of the 600 students enrolled at the school, 114 were absent on Friday.
On a normal day, the school has a 95 percent attendance rate. However, it was at about 80 percent Friday.
“We’re keeping our community, our families well informed,” Superintendent-Director Dr. Tom Hickey told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens.
“We’re taking the necessary precautions here and we’ll monitor the situation.”
Custodial crews are doing their best to keep the germs from spreading, according to Hickey.
Hickey says this is not a norovirus.
“Any surface area that a community of people might come in touch with, that’s really what we’re focused on,” he said.
