Watch & Listen: Goucher, Beers Recap Successful Weekend For Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins had themselves a very successful weekend, earning four points in their two games to pad their lead for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins now own a four-point lead over the Florida Panthers after a 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers on Saturday and a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

The voice of the Bruins, Dave Goucher, called 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich Monday morning to talk about the games from the weekend, the addition of Max Talbot to the fourth line, the extensions to Reilly Smith and Torey Krug as well as if this team can do damage in the postseason:

Goucher said he could see this team go on a nice little run over the final month of the season.

"I do think they could do something. We saw them, for a month in January play really well. So could they put another month or six weeks together? Sure they could," said Goucher. "The other side of that is, most of the season, they've struggled with consistency. They've picked up nine out of 10 points in their last five games -- they can't afford to go to Ottawa [on Tuesday] and take a step back, and then have Tampa come in here on Thursday and not play well.

"But lately they've been better, and we saw in January that they can put together a pretty good run."

Goucher's booth buddy, Bob Beers, joined Steve Burton on WBZ-TV's Sports Final on Sunday night to discuss the recent surge from Daniel Paille and Brad Marchand, also touching on Claude Julien's dislike of shootouts:

Beers said it is pretty clear that Marchand, who scored the game tying goal with 15 seconds remaining in regulation and then the game-winner in overtime on Saturday, is in a groove at the right time for Boston.

"He's feeling it," he said of Boston's leading scorer. "They've been some good goals; going to the net late against the Flyers, [Sunday] against Detroit short-handed. That's a good feeling, when Marchand is really going. Sometimes when he's not going he's starting to take penalties and he's pressing a bit. He hasn't been taking those penalties. He's scoring, playing on the edge, and when he's going he's a huge addition to the team with what he can provide."
