Police Question Man Who Entered School Unauthorized

FRANKLIN (CBS) – Police questioned a man who may have wandered into two different schools unauthorized this week.

On Monday, Franklin police said a young white male walked into the Parmenter Elementary School. He was buzzed in by a parent or administrator, who thought he had business in the school.

When they learned that wasn't the case, staff members walked him out with incident. He didn't have any contact with children, so the school did not go into lockdown, officials say.

But there's renewed concern after a letter went out to parents in the nearby King Philip Regional School District, saying that the same man may have walked into a middle school on Tuesday.

An emergency meeting was held with parents in Franklin Tuesday night.

"I think when someone we don't know is in our building, everybody wants to know who that is and why," said Elizabeth Fitzmaurice of Franklin schools.

Police haven't connected the two incidents yet.

"We always can improve how we conduct business, we'll use this as a learning experience," assistant Franklin superintendent Sally Winslow said.
