Slope Fest Comes To Boston This Weekend

BOSTON (CBS) - There are mountains of snow in Boston, but on D Street in south Boston it is a mountain of snow.

It is this weekend's Slope Fest, a pop-up winter party next to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

"It's like sunshine on a cloudy day, this is fantastic," said snowboarder Chase Martin, part of the SnowRiders putting on a "Rail Jam" exhibition Friday night.

"This is the worst winter we've ever had and it's definitely looking up tonight," said Elise Hamilton who braved the bitter cold to turn out for the event.

The slope is two-stories high, 70 feet long and will undoubtedly turn the snow misery into snowy fun.

"It's actually great to look up because all we do is look down and follow our little path," said Kate Gilbert.

The three-day winter festival continues Saturday and Sunday with snow tubing for the public.

When the event was planned two months ago a snow gun was brought it with the idea that snow would have to be made.

No one envisioned the bounty from Mother Nature so that all they had to do was pack it on.

"It's bringing something that most people don't get to see out to the streets of Boston," said SnowRider Nicholas Legere.
