Phantom Gourmet: Great 8 Desserts

Smother it in chocolate. Stuff it with ice cream. Get a few extra spoons. These are eight of the most outrageously delicious desserts Phantom has ever found.

Tuckaway Tavern
Raymond, NH

Kicking off the Great 8 is the Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond, New Hampshire. This part restaurant, part butcher shop offers a dizzying array of craft beers, steak tips, and 24 styles of sausage. You can get
a gigantic order of nachos smothered in pulled pork and chili, or a burger topped with bacon and fried chicken. But you should definitely save room for the S'mores Sundae featuring a graham cracker brownie.

And then there's the Tuckaway's signature dessert: the Bloo Balls. They take blueberry cheesecake batter, fry it and serve it over blueberry copote, alongside blueberry ice cream.

Smith & Wolleksky
Boston

Smith and Wollensky is one of the premiere high-end steakhouses in Boston, with an elegant dining room, a state of the art dry-aging room, and an open kitchen where the finest aged cuts are grilled just
right. Nothing finishes off a meal here, like devouring their signature dessert: the Gigantic Chocolate Cake, which is about six inches tall.

Fuse Bistro
Lowell

Another Great 8 winner is Fuse Bistro. Located inside an old firehouse in Downtown Lowell, Fuse serves unexpected food in an unlikely setting. So there's Twice Cooked Zippy Chicken Wings with a ginger soy glaze, fried Chicken served over a pumpkin waffle, burgers topped cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce and Cape Cod Chips, and an absolutely out of this world Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich for dessert.

"We make toffee cookies, and then we make some really cool salted caramel ice cream, and then we'll stack that. Then we put warm, housemade hot fudge all over that, and then a little bit of whipped cream, and then we garnish it with a peanut brittle right on the top."

Bistro Eighty Ates
Webster

Bistro Eighty Ates in Webste is a casual eatery that serves upscale items you don't normally see in the suburbs, like Twin Stuffed Porterhouse Lamb Chops and towering nachos stacked Neopolitan style. If you manage to save room, try some of Eighty Ates Asian inspired desserts like Apple Crisp Spring Rolls and crispy Cheese Cake stuffed rangoons - all presented on an interactive tablet so you can see what you're in for before you order.

Charcoal Guido's
Waltham

Charcoal Guido's is an Italian eatery on Moody Street in Waltham, where they serve authentic classics like Tagliatelle Bolognese and Neopolitan style pizza cooked quickly in a coal-fired oven. Don't you dare leave before you try their dessert pizza - a perfectly-cooked, artfully-arranged symphony of chocolate, hazelnut, ricotta, and crust.

Sip
Downtown Crossing

Another Great 8 winner is Sip in Boston's Downtown Crossing. This wine bar and kitchen has a bit of everything, from fine wines by the glass to shareable plates from around the world. When it comes to dessert, the one sweet you need to eat is the deconstructed S'mores.

"We put marshmallows on skewers, we fire roast them, and serve them with chocolate ganache, raspberry coulis, and crushed graham crackers crumbs. So you can dip it in either or, and dip it in your graham cracker crumb."

SkyBOKX 109
Natick

SkyBOKX 109 in Natick is a "GastroSports Bar" which combines the upscale food and beer of a gastropub, with the flatscreens and fun of a sports bar. Every dish knocks it out of the park, from their over the top Bloody Mary to the crispy Philly Steak Egg Rolls. But the real indulgence comes during dessert, with a cast iron skillet filled with cookie dough and topped with ice cream, whipped cream, candied walnuts and chocolate ganache.

Local 149
South Boston

Rounding out the Great 8 is Local 149 in South Boston. This hip and happening spot offers upscale bar snacks, locally-sourced meats and cheeses, and juicy burgers. The dessert menu pays homage to the classic Fluffernutter sandwich in a truly outrageous way. Their warm, fried Fluffernutter has peanut butter, fluff and slice bananas inside and topped with a raspberry foam.
