Theismann: Brady Can Play Into Forties, Manning Can't

BOSTON (CBS) - Former NFL great Joe Theismann was a guest of the Toucher & Rich show Thursday morning on Radio Row in Phoenix as part of 98.5 The Sports Hub's continuing coverage of Super Bowl XLIX.

Theismann is picking the Patriots to win by seven points.

"I think what they do offensively can control the game. I just feel like they have enough weapons inside to create issues and create problems for Seattle. They don't blitz a lot, so I think the key is going to be the offensive line, as it has been, to protect Tom [Brady] and give him the chance to throw the football," said Theismann. "It'll be interesting to see what they come up with."

Earlier in the show, Toucher & Rich spoke with former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest, the man who introduced Tom Brady to his trainer Alex Guerrero.  Brady's expressed his desire to play as long as he can on numerous occasions, and his fitness regimen is well documented.

But does former quarterback Joe Theismann think it's possible for Tom Brady to play well into his 40's?

"With his arm? Yes. Peyton's [arm]? No. You notice the difference now in Peyton's arm, and you'll notice it more next year. Peyton has lost a lot of zip when he gets into bad weather. He never threw a tight spiral anyways," said Theismann. "Tom spins it unbelievable. I used to play catch with Tom Brady; I'd catch two balls and hire somebody to come and catch the rest. Seriously. I would."

For Theismann, the debate is over when it comes to Brady vs. Manning, and Brady vs. everyone else too.

"I think Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. Ever. If he wins this next Super Bowl, I think his legacy is set as the greatest. If he doesn't I still think it's up for great debate, but I'd still lean Tom."
