Downed utility poles have shut down many streets on the island. While schools were back in session Thursday, police urged residents to adhere to road detours as crews worked to clear roads and restore power.

The Tax Collector & Assessor's office on Washington Street was also closed Thursday due to flooding from the storm, Nantucket Police tweeted.  Other state agencies, including the Registry of Motor Vehicles is also closed.
