Boston Residents Upset Over Snow Cleanup

BOSTON (CBS) - Two full days after the snow stopped falling, it is still accumulating on Shirley Cawdette's sidewalk.

"They actually picked it up out of the street and dumped it over here and this has to stop," the Dorchester resident said.

Shirley Cawdette paid $150 to have the snow removed – as she's required – from her sidewalks and ramps. A few hours later, she says, the snow was back.

"I'm concerned about the schoolchildren. Tomorrow is school. Where are they going to stand?" said Cawdette.

"With a forklift, they just keep dropping and dropping and dropping," said Dorchester resident Giovanna Ferrara.

For seven years, Giovanna Ferrara has put up with the pile. It stands some eight feet high and is in front of her business, a handicap ramp, and the sidewalk.

"In the wintertime, it's okay for the City of Boston to put snow here and nobody gives them a ticket, nobody cares. This is ridiculous," said Ferrara.

The city says it's doing its best. After all, it was the sixth largest snowfall in history. The Mayor's office is asking for the public's patience.

"My money is paying for them to move this snow. I'm not paying for these people to give me headaches. They have to do better than this," said Cawdette.

City officials say they are doing their best to move and melt the snow. Officials expect to have 500 tons of snow melted in the next few days.
