Could Patriots Fans' 'Super Bowl Fatigue' Lower Ticket Prices?
BOSTON (CBS) – Tickets to Super Bowl 49 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks aren't exactly cheap, but they may be the least expensive title game seats in years.
Connor Gregoire of SeatGeek.com told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope that ticket prices dropped considerably since it became clear the Patriots would be going to Arizona, and that may be due to "Super Bowl fatigue."
"It's their sixth time back in the game in 14 years in the (Tom) Brady-(Bill) Belichick era," Gregoire said. "And you have had five previous chances for Pats fans to pay the multiple thousands of dollars it takes to get to the game to buy tickets (and) to stay in an hotel."
Gregoire says the average ticket price dropped about $600 during the Patriots 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Sunday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
The average price for a ticket is about $2,764; however, some are selling for as low as $1,800, according to Gregoire. Five years ago, an average ticket costs $3,662 on the night of conference championships, Gregoire said.
Seattle fans may also not be as eager to make the trip for the second year in a row, but going to Phoenix is much easier from the Pacific Northwest, SeatGeek.com notes.
Patriots fans, on the other hand, are more likely to be satisfied with watching their team play for a title on TV, yet again.
"As a New England fan. . . it doesn't seem like you need to get off your couch and out of your living room to fly cross-country to Phoenix and pay thousands of dollars for tickets," Gregoire said.
The most expensive tickets cost more than $958,000 for zone club loft seats, according to the StubHub website.
