Horse Stuck On Ice Overnight Rescued

WRENTHAM (CBS) --  A horse was rescued Thursday morning after being stuck on the ice overnight.

Wrentham Fire Department responded to a call shortly before 10a.m. where they found a horse lying on the ground on Chestnut Street. The horse, Bob, had apparently wandered from his stable, slipped on ice in the middle of the night and was unable to get back up.

"Bob", a 24-year-old horse owned by Debbie Sandstrom of Chestnut Street in Wrentham wandered from it's stable overnight into it's paddock where it slipped on ice and fell. The horse could not upright itself. Wrentham firefighters and DPW workers used a front end loader, fire hoses and chains and some ingenuity to hoist the horse to it's feet. An equine veterinarian at the scene injected some fluids and medicine and brought the horse back to it's stable where he is recovering.

Local officials, along with the Massachusetts Equine Clinic were able to harness Bob using a front end loader, fire hoses and chains, and pull him upright. According to Wrentham Fire, he was then able to walk back to the barn on his own.
