Charlie Jacobs: 'Unacceptable' For Bruins To Miss Playoffs

BOSTON (CBS) -- Charlie Jacobs was promoted from principal to CEO of Delaware North's Boston Holdings on Tuesday, and despite the positive personal step forward, Jacobs minced no words when discussing the state of his underperforming hockey team.

"I'd say without question this has been a very disappointing year," said Jacobs. "It's unacceptable the way this team has performed given the amount of time, money and effort that's been spent on this team. To see it deliver the way it has is unacceptable."

With a 19-15-6 record, the Bruins currently sit on the outside of the playoff picture. They trail Toronto by one point for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, and they're five points behind the Red Wings for the third spot in the Atlantic Division.

If things don't improve, the Bruins will find themselves out of the playoffs for the first time since 2007. That's something that Jacobs clearly does not intend to see happen.

"Incredible failure. If you think about what has been put in this team in terms of -- let's discount all of the scouting, all of the drafting, all of the money spent on the player personnel -- for us to be a team that's out of the playoffs is absolutely unacceptable," Jacobs declared. "Everybody in the executive offices are fully aware how I feel and they feel the same way, which brings us to this evaluation process and it's fluid right now. I can't say at any moment we have a final decision other than to say that it's been an utter disappointment and a failure, complete failure."

While such statements from the boss are sure to heighten the senses of everybody working in the front office, as part of the coaching staff and of course on the ice, Jacobs did not pinpoint any one area that absolutely must be fixed as soon as possible.

"I don't have that answer. I can just tell you that at the moment this is a very fluid situation that is being monitored very closely," Jacobs said. "I don't have any answers for why we're underperforming. If I did, I would have tried to fix them long ago."

98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones discussed the comments made by Charlie Jacobs during his show Tuesday night, and what it means for the Bruins:
