Hundreds Honor Pete Frates In Gloucester With ALS Polar Plunge

Gloucester (CBS) -- On an unusually beautifully warm day in December, hundreds took the plunge at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester.

Saturday marked the third  annual passion plunge in honor of 30-year-old Pete Frates who battles ALS.

"What's going though my mind is abundant joy and gratitude," Pete's mom, Nancy Frates said.

Pete is the person behind ice bucket challenge, which gained international attention.

"Unfortunately he's in the later stages of this disease which is terrifying, but he's is one of the most tough kids I know and he is full of joy has a wife and baby," Nancy said.

Among the brave crowd stands one in particular, 35-year-old Kyle Connors. Connors was diagnosed with ALS back in September, but today he took the plunge.

"To be here and to see all this is amazing.  The support and love is just helping me warm up right now," Connors said.

Those who participated say they couldn't asked for a better day to help those battling this unbearable disease.

"We will not rest until we have cure for this disease," Nancy said.
