BOSTON (CBS) — It’s supposed to be a season of giving, but it can be hard to get past the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. Sometimes, people may not know what they can do to really make a difference.
If you’re looking for a gift that can change a life, one option is a UNICEF donation.
Caryl Stern, the president and CEO of the U.S. fund for UNICEF, says it’s been a tough year for children all over the world. Generally there are one or two life-threatening crises occurring at one time, but she says that right now, there are five.
“You’ve got Central African Republic, Iraq, South Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, and then the Ebola crisis on top of that,” Stern told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey.
Stern says these children need help desperately.
“Polio vaccines, you can buy them for $36.40, or warm weather clothing you can buy them for $56.70,” Stern said.
