Mass. Police Departments Receive 'Wings On Pigs' Social Media Threats
BOSTON (CBS) – Several Massachusetts police departments are investigating threatening comments made on social media similar to the remarks made by the man suspected of shooting and killing two New York City police officers.
Yarmouth police said Tuesday that they received threatening posts to the department's Facebook page from a man who lives in another state. The posts involved threats to shoot and kill police officers, according to Yarmouth police.
The threats were made the same day that Chicopee resident Charles DiRosa posted on social media quoting "put wings on pigs," a reference to a police shooting.
Chicopee police said they will summons DiRosa to court for Threat to Commit a Crime.
Middleboro Police Chief Joseph Perkins confirmed to WBZ-TV that Chicopee police contacted his department about a comment posted to the Chicopee Police Department Facebook page.
A Facebook user referenced Middleboro police in a comment on the site. Perkins said the department is investigating the threat, but has not changed any policies at this time.
Yarmouth police said that after investigating the threat made to their Facebook page, they determined that the man who wrote the comment has a long and violent criminal record.
Officers contacted the police department where the man lives, and further action is pending, according to Yarmouth police.
"We caution everyone that threats to our police officers will be taken seriously and we will do everything to protect ourselves and our brothers and sisters in law enforcement here and everywhere," Yarmouth police posted on Facebook.
