Report: Red Sox Agree To Deal With Justin Masterson

BOSTON (CBS) -- Since the Red Sox lost the Jon Lester sweepstakes, the team has seemingly been on a mission to add as much pitching as possible.

That's been apparent after the team reportedly made trades to acquire Wade Miley and Rick Porcello, and it's even clearer now that the Sox have reportedly signed Justin Masterson.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported that the Red Sox agreed to a deal with the right-hander on Thursday.

Details of the deal were not immediately reported.

Masterson, who will turn 30 years old in March, was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2006 draft. He made 67 appearances for Boston in 2008 and '09 before being traded to Cleveland in a deal that sent Victor Martinez to the Red Sox.

An All-Star in 2013, Masterson compiled a 48-61 record and 4.23 ERA in 164 appearances for the Indians.

Last year, he was traded to St. Louis at the trade deadline, and he went 3-3 with a 7.04 ERA in nine appearances (six starts) down the stretch for the Cardinals.
