Wednesday's Child: 9 Year-Old Dominick

BOSTON (MA) - Dominick is a bright, charming and friendly Caucasian boy who loves to engage in conversations with others. He enjoys using a journal to write and draw in. Dominick loves to play with his LEGOS and create stories while he plays or reads a book. Dominick is a very sweet and caring 9-year-old who wants to be a part of a family and enjoys helping out with chores in his foster home.

Dominick is currently in the third grade and has an Individualized Education Plan. He enjoys school, and math is his favorite subject. Currently, Dominick participates in bi-weekly therapy and also meets with a therapeutic mentor to help him to process difficult emotions and develop appropriate coping behaviors. Dominick requires consistent and strict limits in a home and he does respond well when he trusts his environment. With long-term stability, Dominick is likely to make even further progress.

Legally freed for adoption, Dominick will do best in a two-parent family, preferably with no other children, unless they are older. The family will need to be strong advocates for his educational needs, as well as understand his history of trauma and neglect. Continued therapy is recommended for Dominick, and any family will need to participate in ongoing therapeutic services with him. A family will need to be open to having contact with his younger sister, who is in a separate home, if the children are not placed together.

To learn more about Dominick, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
