Worcester Football Teams Play Early To Beat Winter Storm

WORCESTER (CBS) --  Ground crews were out with leaf blowers Wednesday morning clearing the football fields from snow before high school teams in Worcester played their games.

Teams broke away from tradition by moving games up to the day before Thanksgiving instead of the holiday to avoid the impending snowstorm.

The cheering stands were empty Wednesday morning as Worcester North and Worcester South. They may have beat the heavy snow expected later in the day, but they couldn't escape the rain.

"I know they're trying to make it easier for the parents, but it's tough because no one's here. But, safety first," Jessica Mantha, a parent, told WBZ-TV's Ken MacLeod.

The game was originally scheduled for 6p.m. By noon, however, snow had already begun falling.
