Patriots Sign Running Back LeGarrette Blount

BOSTON (CBS) -- Running back LaGarrette Blount is once again a member of the New England Patriots, the team announced Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora is reporting that Blount and the Patriots agreed to a two-year deal. ESPN's Josina Anderson was the first to report that Blount was in Foxboro on Thursday and was set to sign with New England.

Blount rushed for 772 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games for New England last season, and broke out in the playoffs with 166 rushing yards and four touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Divisional round.

Blount signed a two-year deal with the Steelers in the offseason, but got just 65 carries over the first 11 weeks, racking up 266 yards and two touchdowns. Most of his work came in Week 3, when he ran for 118 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers.

He was released by the Steelers earlier this week after he left the field early in Pittsburgh win over the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. Blount did not get a carry in that game, and was reportedly fed up with his role on the team.

Signing Blount will give New England a little more depth at the running back position and another power back for the mix. Blount joins Shane Vereen, Jonas Gray, Brandon Bolden and rookie James White in a crowded backfield.

To make room on the roster for Blount, the Patriots released first-year defensive lineman Casey Walker.
