Phantom Gourmet: Powdered Donut Taste Test

BOSTON (CBS) – Phantom recently purchased bags of mini powdered donuts from a local supermarket. The bite-sized contenders were Entenmann's, Hostess, Little Debbie and Tastykake.

See if you can guess which sweet treat made it to the top of the food chain.

Little Debbie finished in last place. The little blue bag has a shockingly small window that barely shows off the product hiding inside, and maybe that's a good thing. These plump little donuts offer very little flavor up front, but manage to leave an unpleasant aftertaste on the back end.

Next up was Tastykake, which Phantom found only slightly tasty. These misshapen orbs coated Phantom's gloves and mouth with plenty of sweet powdered sugar. But that's where the flavor train stopped. When it came to the cake, these donuts had very little taste, leaving Phantom messy but unimpressed.

The runner up is Entenmann's. From the second he opened the bag, Phantom was intoxicated by the sweet smell of these powdered beauties. With a generous coating, plenty of sweetness, and subtle hints of vanilla, this firm donut is definitely worth the calories.

At the top of the food chain is Hostess. Don't call it a comeback. Just call it a darn good donut. The biggest of these mini donuts, Hostess boasts excellent powder distribution and a light and airy cake that leads to a wonderfully soft and squishy eating experience.

For breakfast, lunch or anytime snack, these donuts from Hostess are the most-est, and they're at the top of the food chain.
