Judge: Cross-Country Rape Suspect To Remain Jailed

WORCESTER (AP) — A Massachusetts judge has ruled that a man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl and suspected of raping female escorts in several states should remain locked up because he is a danger to others.

Authorities say Gregory Lewis, of Southbridge, fled Massachusetts after being charged in the teen's rape. He was captured in New York after what police described as a cross-country crime spree.

Prosecutors asked that Lewis remain held without bail while awaiting trial.

A judge ruled Wednesday that "there are no conditions of release that will reasonably assure the safety of the victims and the public."

Massachusetts state police have said Lewis is suspected of robbing and raping female escorts in Colorado, Indiana, Missouri and other states.

Lewis' attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
