Family: Missing Swampscott Mother Last Seen With Sex Offender

LYNN (CBS) -- The search for a missing Swampscott mother continued on the North Shore Monday after her worried family said they found some of her belongings in a dumpster over the weekend.

Jaimee Mendez, 25, has been missing since Thursday. She has a 5-year-old son with autism, and her family says she would never leave him for this long.

"The entire family searching for somebody, walking through the woods aimlessly, just trying to find any piece of information," sister Alyssa Mendez told WBZ-TV. "We just want to know what happened."

On Thursday night, Alyssa Mendez said her sister called two friends, saying she felt uncomfortable with the man she was with that night. Her family says they've learned that man is a known sex offender.

"She said, 'listen I'm on this street I'm with this guy, he's making me really nervous, I want to get out of here,'" Alyssa Mendez said. "[Her friend] went to go pick up her up, she never showed, and her phone was off. That's the last anyone ever heard of her."

Alyssa Mendez said she spoke with the man her sister was with the night she disappeared.

"He had scratches on his face, he had scratches on his hands," Alyssa Mendez said. "It just didn't make sense, his story."

Swampscott police and several agencies from North Shore communities continue to investigate what happened to Mendez.

This weekend, the family says Jaimee Mendez's jacket, cellphone, phone charger and ID were found in an industrial area next to some woods. Later, they said Jaimee Mendez's mother made another disturbing discovery in a dumpster at a CVS in Lynn: Jaimee Mendez's sneakers, some men's clothing and part of a rug.

Police have not commented on the evidence, but said that Jaimee Mendez has diabetes.

"It's like a race against the clock," Alyssa Mendez said.
