'Path Of Destruction' As 7 Cars Smashed By Truck In Lynn

LYNN (CBS) – A drunk truck driver left a "path of destruction" across a street in Lynn overnight, police said, and then allegedly sealed it with a kiss.

Stephen Gaudet, 37, of Lynn, was arrested after officers say he drove a box truck down Childs Street around 1:45 a.m. and slammed into seven parked cars.

One car was hit so hard it ended up underneath another vehicle.

"It sounded like he revved on the engine a little bit and just by the way he was driving I could kind of tell he was under the influence," a woman who witnessed the incident told WBZ-TV.

Childs Street looked like the aftermath of a demolition derby, and Maureen Rosenthal's red corolla was forced onto the roof of a neighbor's car.

"I heard screeching, a bunch of crashes, and I went outside to see what happened.," she said.

Gaudet stopped at the end of the street and, according to court documents, police found him slumped behind the steering wheel of the truck.

When they tried to wake him up, they say he blew a kiss at them, according to the documents.  Then, there was a brief struggle before officers arrested him.

Gaudet is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, OUI drugs, and resisting arrest.

No one was hurt, but all seven cars had to be towed away for repairs.

Louis Sulla has damage to three cars and says he's already having trouble negotiating with the insurance company.

"One car was so badly damaged you didn't know where the engine was," he said.

Gaudet was arraigned Thursday in Lynn District Court.

He pleaded not guilty and was released on the condition that he not drive and undergo a substance abuse evaluation.

He's due back in court December 19.
