Red Sox Announce 2015 Spring Training Dates

BOSTON (CBS) -- The bitter cold of winter has not yet hit Boston, but when it does, you can already mark your calendars for the warm days ahead.

What says summer is just around the corner better than spring training?

The Red Sox announced Wednesday that their 2015 spring training will begin February 21 in Lee County, Florida. Pitchers and catchers will report for duty on February 20 and have their first workouts the next day. Position players will hold their first workout on February 25.

The team will open their exhibition season that following week, with their annual double-header against the Northeastern University Huskies and the Boston College Eagles on Tuesday, March 3. They'll kick off their Grapefruit League schedule two days later against their Chairman's Cup rival, the Minnesota Twins, at Hammond Stadium on March 5. They'll play the Miami Marlins in their Grapefruit League home opener the following day.

Tickets for Boston's 18 home exhibition games go on sale Saturday, December 6. Ticket's will be the same prices as they were in 2014 and can be purchased on the team's website.

Of course, not everyone can make their way down to Florida. So if you want to send the Sox off at Fenway Park, mark your calendars for Thursday, February 12. That's the day the equipment truck will make its 1,500 mile trek down to Florida -- better known as "Truck Day."
