PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS) — Southbridge child rape suspect Gregory Lewis, already wanted for violent crimes in Massachusetts, North Carolina and Colorado, is now a suspect in a potential Oregon assault.
No charges have been filed yet, but Lewis is a suspect in an assault “similar in nature to the others,” a Massachusetts State Police spokesman said on Sunday.
Lewis has been on the run since Sept. 15, when police say he cut off his GPS bracelet and fled the state. Authorities believe he then returned home to Southbridge on Sept. 25, seriously assaulted a family member, stole a handgun and ammunition and left.
Two days before that attack in Southbridge, Lewis allegedly kidnapped, robbed and assaulted a woman in Charlotte, North Carolina.
On Saturday, Denver police said Lewis was wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping in Colorado.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Lewis is believed to be “extremely dangerous.”
“We determined yesterday that he might potentially be our guy,” Jackson said. “He’s a bad man. He’s somebody we consider to be a sexual predator, someone we’re concerned about being out here in our community.”
Denver police said Lewis has a tattoo on his chest of a hand holding a knife with a broken handcuff, and a demonic female with colored eyes on his left shoulder to elbow.
Lewis is the first suspect listed on the Massachusetts State Police Most Wanted list.
