Red Sox Reportedly Set To Hire Chili Davis As Hitting Coach
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox have reportedly found their new hitting coach.
According to multiple outlets, the Red Sox will hire Chili Davis to be the team's new hitting coach. Davis served as hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics the last three seasons.
Davis, who played 19 MLB seasons with five teams, would replace Greg Colbrunn on Boston's staff, who left following last season after two years on the job. Colbrunn led the Red Sox to one of the best offenses in 2013, but last season Boston ranked 12th in runs scored (634), 12th in home runs (123) and 14th in slugging percentage (.369).
The 55-year-old Davis was a three-time All-Star during his career, which included stints with the San Francisco Giants, California Angels, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals. He was a career .274 hitter with 250 home runs, and was a three-time World Series champion with the Twins (1991) and Yankees (1998, 1999).
Davis was teammates with Red Sox manager John Farrell on the Angels from 1993-1994.
