Keller @ Large: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominations Travesty As Usual

BOSTON (CBS) - The annual list of nominees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is out, and as usual, it's a travesty.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of them.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band would be worthy inductees, but ahead of Howard Tate? No way.

Chic had a string of good dance hits in the disco era, but if we're going to make space for another funk hall of famer, then it ought to be the Tower of Power.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is nominated, and his omission to date is shameful. But how do you then continue to exclude Bon Jovi, J. Geils, or the Moody Blues? Lou Reed, absolutely, but then what about Mott the Hoople and the Pixies?

Let's face it, the music industry types who choose the hall of fame nominees have more than a few fakers in their midst. Not to be too sixties-centric, but where are Deep Purple or for the love of Elvis, Jethro Tull?

Are you kidding me?

Among this crowd, not enough respect is paid to the pioneers who made current hall of famers possible. Thus, Madonna has been in for six years, while Cher, whose vocal chords and showmanship make Madonna look like a bad karaoke nightmare, remains un-nominated.

If you want to claim that country music stars don't belong in the rock hall, fine. But if Johnny Cash and Hank Williams are in, how on earth do you keep Willie Nelson out?

I could go on all day, and start some Twitter fights by mentioning Steppenwolf, The Cars and Dire Straits, but I won't. Suffice to say that the people behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame don't have the slightest idea what they're doing.
