Knife-Wielding Man Surrenders After Newton Standoff

NEWTON (CBS) -- A knife-wielding man surrendered after a three-hour standoff in Newton Thursday afternoon, police said.

SWAT teams responded to the Upper Falls area for a report of an armed man who barricaded himself in his home, police confirmed to WBZ.

Newton police said on Twitter that the Elliot Street at Mechanic Street area were closed due to an "ongoing police incident."

The man was taken into custody outside of a duplex and brought to a hospital, police said. There were no injuries.
