BOSTON (CBS) – Why should you sink an hour of your life into watching the Massachusetts gubernatorial debate at 7 p.m. Tuesday on WBZ-TV and CBSBoston.com, or listening to it on WBZ NewsRadio 1030?
After all, it’s been a boring campaign, or so the pundits are telling you, between lackluster candidates. And it really doesn’t matter who wins, claim the cynics.READ MORE: Massachusetts Reports 68 New COVID Cases, 5 Additional Deaths
In the end, all politicians are alike.
Nonsense, I say.
It’s true, both GOP nominee Charlie Baker and Democratic nominee Martha Coakley are cerebral, wonky types who don’t radiate a lot of personal charisma.
Watching this debate won’t be like going to see Sting in concert.
But these two may be the best-qualified candidates to lead our state in decades.
Both have long experience in state government. And each would bring a different set of ideas and alliances to the issues that a governor wields great power on, taxes, economic growth, school and welfare reform.

Why should you watch or listen?
Because we will ask pointed, substantive questions, some of which were sent in by your neighbors.
Because it will be a real debate, with candidates engaging each other directly, not a dull joint interview.
And because it’s your tax dollars, your quality of life, your kids’ future they’ll be debating.
And if you can’t spare an hour to make a smart call about all that, don’t be complaining next year when the new governor starts wielding their power.
