Felger & Mazz: What On Earth Happened To The Oakland Raiders?

BOSTON (CBS) - Hard to believe it now, but the Raiders used to be one of the premier teams in the National Football League.

With three Super Bowl championships and a rabid following, they had mystique, aura and allure.

Not anymore.

What was once a proud franchise is now the laughingstock of the NFL.

What happened?

With the Raiders coming to town on Sunday for the Patriots home opener, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti decided to investigate.

"The Raiders are a joke. They suck. They are arguably the worst franchise in pro sports. They are a joke. They are a punchline. They are pathetic. It's so much better this way. I hated the Raiders. It's a dork fest now. The Black Hole looks like a Star Trek convention. They lose the Tuck Rule game. The next year they go to the Super Bowl and get their asses kicked. Since then, do you know what their record is? 53-125," said Felger.

"Wow. That is brutal," Mazz said of the futile Raiders.

"Do you know what winning percentage that is? .298! This is their twelfth season since that Super Bowl and have not had a winning year since. Their best record during that time was 8-8. When the Clippers were at their worst did they ever go .298 over a 12 year stretch? Worst franchise in sports. 'Commitment To Excellence'? Hahahaha! You suck!" exclaimed Felger.

What On Earth Happened To The Oakland Raiders?

Since Bill Belichick took the reins here in New England, the Raiders have had eight head coaches.

Jon Gruden, Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin, something named Tom Cable, something named Hue Jackson and now something named Dennis Allen.

Pretty bad right? The quarterback situation is even worse.

They've had 18 starting quarterbacks in that time: Rich Gannon, Rick Mirer, Marques Tuiasosopo, Kerry Collins, Andrew Walter, Aaron Brooks, Josh McCown, Daunte Culpepper, JaMarcus Russell, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, Jason Campbell, Carson Palmer, Kyle Boller, Terrelle Pryor, Matt McGloin, Matt Flynn and now Derek Carr.

"Worst organization in sports," said Felger.

Tony Attempts To Recite "The Autumn Wind"

While the exact reasons for their demise are unclear, Felger and Mazz suspect it has something to do with their owner Mark Davis and his Dumb & Dumber bowl cut.
