Major Retailers Reveal Must-Have Toys For The 2014 Holiday Season
BOSTON (CBS) -- Kids have only been back in school for two weeks, but retailers are already aiming to get trendy toys on their holiday wishlists.
Major toy sellers like Walmart, Target and Toys "R" Us are out with their projections for hot toys for the 2014 holiday season, and topping the lists are creative gizmos, all things "Frozen" and old favorites.
Toys based on hit kids movies and TV shows are set to be the most popular gifts. Appearing on many retailer's anticipated best-seller lists include a talking mobile cart from the Disney Channel's animated show "Doc McStuffins," a light-up Elsa doll from the blockbuster "Frozen," and the latest "Skylanders Trap Team" video game. Toys "R" Us also featured the "Transformers" Stomp & Chomp Grimlock and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Stretch 'N' Shout Leonardo.
For kids that are a little older, crafty toys allowing for maximum creativity should also be in-demand. The Spin Master Sew Cool Sewing Machine, Moose Toys Beados Quick Dry Design Station and Maya Group Make Your Case Cell Phone Cover Kit are among the fastest-growing toy categories, according to Walmart.
Other must-haves have a more classic feel to them. Leading Target's holiday list is a LEGO Friends Jungle Tree Sanctuary, the Simon Swipe Game, and the Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll.
And just like adults gearing up for the next iPhone release, kids are also looking to get their hands on new electronics. The LeapFrog LeapTV Active Video Game System, the Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch, the FurReal Friends Get Up and GoGo My Walkin' Pup and Spin Master Flutterybye Light Up Fairy are all expected to be hot items.
