Arlington Worker Arraigned On Charges Of Video Recording In Café Bathroom

ARLINGTON (CBS/AP) – A New Hampshire man charged with secretly recording women in a bathroom at an Arlington cafe was arraigned in Cambridge District Court in Medford Monday.

Joseph Hennessey of Salem, New Hampshire, is charged with disturbing the peace and violating the state's recent upskirting law.

Police arrested the 53-year-old Hennessey at the Kickstand Cafe in Arlington, after workers called authorities to report a suspicious person. Police say they found a camera hidden in a flower basket in the bathroom.

Hennessey denied having anything to do with the video devices and said he was in the women's bathroom only because the men's bathroom was too full.

Police say Hennessey works for the Arlington public works department and has been out on worker's compensation.

"No place on Earth do you have a greater expectation of privacy than in a bathroom," said Arlington police Capt. Richard Flynn. "This is just a disturbing crime."

Investigators are planning to get search warrants to see what is on the camera found in the cafe's bathroom.
