Armed Man Robs Senior Couple At Knifepoint In Hyannis Hotel Room

BARNSTABLE (CBS) – An senior couple from Pennsylvania was robbed at knife point Sunday night after checking into a Hyannis hotel room, according to police.

Mike McGowan, 78, told police he and his 77-year-old wife, Arlene, were opening the hotel room door after checking in when a male suspect pushed it open and forced his way inside.

"He and I went against the wall there. When he got closer, I pushed him away with my feet and then he lunged at me and knocked me over between the bed and I couldn't get up," Mike McGowan told WBZ-TV.

Arlene McGown said she feared for her life once she saw the knife blade.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. at America's Best Value Inn on Main Street.

Mike McGowan grabbed the suspect's leg and kicked him. The pair wrestled on the floor and at one point, the suspect flipped the McGowan over on to his stomach and pulled a pocket knife on him and demanded money from the wife.

Arlene McGowan was taking money out of her pocketbook when the suspect took the purse and fled the scene, police said.

The suspect took $100 from the couple.

The suspect is described as a tanned white man or light-skinned African American, police said. He is around 5' 10'' with short, dark hair and blue jeans. He was wearing a light-colored tanktop and appeared to be about 35 years old.

Police responded to the scene and used a K-9 to track him to the Steamship Authority parking lot nearby, police said. Police saw the suspect jump into a railroad yard and lost his trail.

Police later located the victim's purse and wallet in the rail yard.

Authorities are investigating the incident. No injuries were reported.
