Daily Talker: How Young Is Too Young To Shoot?

A 9-year-old girl accidentally shoots and kills a shooting instructor in Arizona as he was teaching her how to fire an automatic Uzi.

The young girl was at the shooting range with her parents, as part of a vacation.  This area, not far from Las Vegas, has seen a boom in business from people who want to learn to shoot guns.

Many people want to know why this young girl was shooting in the first place.  A Phoenix-based firearms expert tells CBS News most shooting ranges have an age limit and strict safety rules when teaching children to shoot.

Investigators say no laws were broken.  In Nevada and Arizona, it's up to the gun range to decide whether to allow a particular minor to fire a weapon.  This Arizona range had a rule of allowing children 8 and older to shoot firearms.  That policy has now changed.  Shooters now have to be at least 5 feet tall or at least 12 years old.

As of now, no charges are being filed.  Is there any reason to allow a child to learn to shoot?
