IT Worker At Canton Special Needs School Arrested On Child Porn Charges

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (CBS) – A 32-year-old IT worker at a Canton, Mass.-based special needs school was arrested Friday on child pornography charges.

Eric S. Bean, of Cumberland, Rhode Island was arrested Friday by the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force., according to Rhode Island State Police. Bean faces charges for possession of child pornography and transfer of child pornography.

Bean works as an IT technician at the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center in Canton.

The special needs school was previously embroiled in controversy for using electric shock therapy on disabled students.

Bean was arrested after authorities received information from the Nebraska State Patrol saying an individual had been emailing child porn images. The task force traced the messages to Bean's address. During a search of the home, police found child porn on a digital storage device. The images were taken for further analysis.

Bean was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday. He faces up to 20 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Police said there was no evidence Bean had any inappropriate contact with children.
