Saugus Property Hit For Third Time, Teen Charged With Drunk Driving

SAUGUS (CBS) – A Saugus couple consider themselves lucky after a speeding car rammed into vehicles parked in the driveway and sent their pickup truck crashing into the dining room just minutes after the husband had left the room.

Saugus police report that just after 11:30 Monday night they arrived at a home on Main Street to find a 2012 gray Dodge Charger had crashed through a wall and into multiple parked cars.

Debbie Marshall told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens that her husband had been sitting at the dining room table and got up to do some laundry just five minutes before their pickup truck was pushed into the house.

"I know that we have damage, maybe we can't get into the house, and that scares me because I don't know where we're going to go," said Marshall, who has lived in the house for 30 years. "But he's alive, my husband's alive, so what are you going to do."

It is the second time this house has been hit by a vehicle.  There was also a third prior incident where a driver crashed into a wall on the property, but Monday's crash is the most serious so far.

"All you can say is God had to be sitting on his shoulders," she said.

Speeding Car Pushes Parked Pickup Into Saugus House

Police said five 18-year-olds were in the car when it crashed and three were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, Jerry Johnson, 18, was charged with drunken driving and other motor vehicle charges, police said.

The accident caused a gas leak in the house but the gas was shut off and building inspectors were called in to assess the damage to the house.
