Sean Sylver Wins 2014 Sports Hub Talent Search

BOSTON (CBS) - All summer long, 98.5 The Sports Hub and Miller Lite have gone from town-to-town, venue-to-venue searching for the next on-air talent at the station.

After hundreds of auditions, four were chosen to compete in the live finale Saturday, July 26 at Jerry Remy's roof deck overlooking Fenway Park for the final determination.

After thoughtful consideration, the judges decided Sean Sylver of Norton, MA to be the winner!

Sylver, 31, started experimenting in the industry "on a very low wattage radio about five to 10 years ago," and now his college hobby for radio and his lifelong love of sports has come full circle with his hiring at 98.5 The Sports Hub.

"Just following the personalties that have graced the Boston sports scene over the years -- to have just a shot, an outside shot at being one of those people is pretty cool. I really like how they've been able to connect with their audience over the years, and I'd like to be one of those people who really connects with the listeners. That would be awesome for me."

Sylver edged out Erika Leigh, Chris Meadows and Scott Sudikoff for the gig, and I spoke with CBS Radio Boston's VP of Programming Mike Thomas to hear about the final decision-making process.

"His opinions were by far the strongest of the four contestants," Thomas said of Sylver. "He had strong opinions and could really carry the conversation, so that was the difference right there for all of us judges."

Sean is now an official employee of 98.5 The Sports Hub and it looks like he's already making some friends.
