Teen Badly Injured By Hit And Run Driver In Dorchester

BOSTON (CBS) - A teen riding a motor scooter was badly injured by a hit and run driver in Dorchester Wednesday night.

The crash happened at the intersection of Kingsdale and Standish Streets.

A woman who witnessed the crash called 911.

"The little boy on the scooter was turning and they just smacked right into each other," Sierra Braxton said. "He just ran, he sped off, his windshield was all cracked and the boy flew in the air onto the ground."

The teen suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to Boston Medical Center.

The car that hit the teen fled the scene and then crashed into a home in Jamaica Plain, according to police. The man driving the car was taken into custody a short time later.

Boston Police credited neighbors for helping to track the suspect down.

"Great work by the community," Boston Police Chief William Gross said. "We often say if you see something say something, and I just have to commend the members of the community for taking care of the citizens because if it wasn't for them we would have never have known about the suspect motor vehicle."

Boston Police have not released the suspect's identity.
