Beach Week: Hampton Beach In NH

HAMPTON, NH (CBS) - All week long we have been counting down the top 5 New England beaches as voted on by our viewers. It has truly been a journey, traveling hundreds of miles over the 5 days.

And now… drum-roll please…the number 1 New England beach according to the WBZ viewers…

Hampton Beach, in Hampton New Hampshire.

If you have lived in Southern New England for any length of time, chances are you have been to Hampton Beach. It has long been a very popular location for beach-goers in the summer months.

Hampton Beach truly has it all…just a 50-mile, one hour ride from Boston, Hampton has an extensive Boardwalk with numerous restaurants, arcades, hotels and shops. Summertime concerts are a popular take in the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.

The water may be a bit chilly, just low 60s in June, but the beach goes on for miles and miles. There are lifeguards, restrooms, showers and even a campground right on the water.

Each summer, Hampton Beach holds a sand sculpting contest, in fact if you head up there in the next few days you will be able to get a glimpse of some amazing sand structures!

Finally, in a recent study of water quality at United States beaches, Hampton was ranked as one of the cleanest in the Nation!
