Mass. Anti-Casino Group: Enough Signatures Collected For Repeal Referendum
BOSTON (AP) — Casino opponents say they have more than double the required signatures to hold a referendum to repeal the state's 2011 casino law placed on the November ballot.
The advocacy group Repeal the Casino Deal said in a statement Tuesday that they will be filing signature papers representing more than 26,000 registered Massachusetts voters to city and town halls by Wednesday's deadline.
The signatures, which will then head to Secretary of State William Galvin's office for certification by early July, come on top of some 90,000 the anti-casino group previously collected to submit the ballot question to state officials in the first place.
The Supreme Judicial Court is expected to render a decision soon on whether the referendum should be placed on the ballot.
