BOSTON (CBS) --- Excitement was in the air for the 118th running of the Boston Marathon.

In addition to fierce competition among  the elite runners, the race drew thousands of first-time marathons and charity runners. For many, the race held special meaning after the attacks during the 2013 marathon.
