Webster Man Arrested In Alleged Theft of Veteran Grave Markers

STURBRIDGE (CBS) – State police have arrested a Webster man for allegedly stealing 25 flag holders/grave markers from a cemetery in Webster.

Alan E Savides, 56, of Webster, was pulled over on Route 131 in Sturbridge Sunday morning because his car fit the description of a vehicle possibly involved in the theft of a dealer's registration plate, state police said.

In the course of the investigation, state police said, the trooper who made the stop saw the dealer registration plate, a large number of veteran flag holder/grave markers, a Webster Fire Department grave marker, and a Polish American flag holder, inside the car.

Police determined the grave markers had been taken from St. Joseph's Garden of Peace Cemetery on Old Worcester Road in Webster.

Savides will be charged in Dudley District Court Monday with 25 counts of removal of a grave flag/token/or flowers, receiving stolen property and following too close.
