Two-Car Crash Sends Minivan Plunging Into Milford Pond, One Driver Faces OUI Charge

MILFORD (CBS) – A woman is under arrest charged with driving drunk after a two-car crash sent a minivan into a Milford pond Saturday night with four people trapped inside.

The driver of the other car, Elizabeth Facey, 21, of Milford, was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident and had her 3-year-old child in the car, police said.

Milford Police Officer Robert Tusino said the accident could have been much worse for the people in the minivan who plunged into the water off Fortune Boulevard.

"This could have been horrible," Tusino said. "Further out it's a quarry and it's actually very deep in the middle. They were very lucky that it went into the beginning of it."

The four people in the minivan, an adult and three children, are in the hospital but OK.

Tusino was particularly disturbed that the alleged drunken driver had her child in the car.

"It shows carelessness and disregard," he said. "It's not that she had a couple of drinks and was driving. She had her own child in the back of the car. The child was properly restrained, was in a car seat, and thank God because the car seat is what saved this child's life."

In addition to the charges of drunken driving, Facey will be facing charges of child endangerment and failing to stop or yield.
