NEWTON (CBS) - Boston College Eagles wide receiver Alex Amidon is passing up a chance at the NFL in an effort to become a U.S. Navy SEAL, according to a report by SB Nation's BC Interruption.

The announcement was reportedly made during a Boston College football dinner Wednesday night.

Amidon, a senior, became the school's all time leader in catches and receiving yards this year.

According to the team website, he was named as an All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honoree as a junior who established single-season school records for receptions (78) and receiving yards (1,210) in 2012.
