Felger & Mazz: Danny Nava Or Jonny Gomes In Left Field?

BOSTON (CBS) - Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow for spring training as opening day nears.

For the reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox it's generally believed there won't be much competition for spots in the field.

Mike Napoli will man first base, Dustin Pedroia second, Xander Bogaerts at short, Middlebrooks at third, Victorino in right and some combination of David Ross and A.J. Pierzynski behind the plate.

However, left field appears to be up for grabs between Danny Nava and Jonny Gomes.

So what would you rather have in your outfield: somebody with a better WAR stat, or somebody you can go to WAR with?

"I'm going with Danny Nava I think he's the better player," said Mazz

"Wait, aren't you aware of the Red Sox postseason record with Jonny Gomes in the lineup?" Felger joked in reference to the team's 10-1 postseason mark with Gomes playing.

The Red Sox in 2013 had unbelievable chemistry and unity, but that was then and this is now. For Felger's money Jonny Gomes will be the first player to expose himself as a fraud in 2014.

Tony thinks it'll be a bad sign if Grady Sizemore beats out Jackie Bradley Jr. in center field in spring training, but to start the year the outfield should be Nava, Bradley Jr., and Victorino.
