Mass. Gov. Reschedules State Of The State

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick has rescheduled his annual State of the State address after cancelling the speech due to the winter storm.

Patrick will deliver the speech next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The speech was originally scheduled at 7 p.m. on Tuesday but Patrick decided to postpone it in light of the snow emergency and his decision to release non-emergency state workers early.

The decision robbed the speech of some of its suspense.

Governors have typically used the State of the State address to preview their budget priorities for the new year.

But Patrick was required by the state constitution to deliver his budget plan to state lawmakers on Wednesday.

Tuesday's speech will be Patrick's last State of the State address. He has opted not to seek re-election this year.
